FLOOD RESPONSE TEAM CREATED

RAHWAY – The Rahway Police Department in conjunction with the Rahway Office of Emergency Management is currently in the process of creating The City of Rahway Flood Response Team. This specialized response team will be comprised of professional first responders and lay people from the Rahway Community. This team will be utilized and activated during severe weather events. There will be a prerequisite for entry on the team by lay persons.

All civilian members will have to complete the Community Response Team Training program (CERT) in order to eligible for the team. The Rahway Police Department will be conducting a CERT training program beginning on March 7, 2012. The CERT program is designed to train and set up communications between first responders and the community to save lives following a major disaster. There will be eight sessions (20 hours) consisting of the following topics: Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Fire Suppression, Disaster Medical Operations Part 1, Disaster Medical Operations Part 2, Light Search & Rescue Operations, Disaster Psychology & Team Organization, and Terrorism. There will also be a final practical exercise held at the Union County Fire Academy in Linden.

The program runs for 8 weeks and will be held on Wednesday nights from 6:30 -9:00 pm. For more information on the CERT Program or the Flood Response Team please call Detective William Eicholz at (732) 827-2079 or weicholz@rahwaypolice.com.
