Operation Medicine Cabinet in Rahway nOV. 14
RAHWAY
–Rahway residents can now join the fight against prescription
drug abuse – right in their own homes.
Operation Medicine Cabinet, a day of opportunity to dispose of
unused, unwanted and expired medications in the home, has been
scheduled for November 14, 2009; from 10 am until 2 p.m.
“Operation Medicine Cabinet” will give Rahway residents the
opportunity to rid their homes and medicine cabinets of unused,
unwanted and expired medicine. The program will allow Rahway
residents to deliver all of their unused, unwanted or expired
medications to law enforcement officials, who can in-turn
dispose of these controlled substances in a safe and
non-hazardous manner. Currently, more than 70% of people who
abuse prescription painkillers say they get them from family or
friends, often in the home or right out of medicine cabinets.
The
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-, in conjunction with the
New Jersey Attorney General’s Office ,Union County Prosecutors
Office and the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ),
have come together to support this day and to educate New Jersey
residents about the dangers of prescription drug abuse and the
easy accessibility of these drugs. This initiative will be held
in partnership with several law enforcement and substance abuse
prevention organizations.
Rahway residents who would like to turn in their medications can
do so at The Rahway Police Department located at 1 City Hall
Plaza from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on November 14th. For further
information please contact Detective William Eicholz at (732)
827-2079 or

Operation Medicine Cabinet is the first state-wide prescription
drug disposal program in the nation.
