CLERK WARNS PROPERTY OWNERS ON
DEED SCAM
Union County
Clerk Joanne Rajoppi has issued a warning to all Rahway
homeowners regarding companies who are soliciting them to
purchase copies of their deeds at exorbitant prices.
“It has come
to my attention that property owners in Union County are
receiving offers to purchase a copy of their deed for $79.50.
Don't be fooled by these offers. You probably already have a
copy of your deed, or your attorney has it.”
Rajoppi said
it is advisable to keep a copy of your deed stored with other
important documents. “If you misplace or lose your deed, you can
readily obtain a certified copy from my office for less than
$25. You can order a copy in person at the County Courthouse or
send us a written request or order a copy on the
Clerk’s Web site. Do not go to a middleman who charges an
exorbitant fee for this service.”
The County
Clerk is responsible for recording, filing and preserving all
property transactions occurring within the county. To find out
more about obtaining a copy of your deed, call the Clerk's
Office at (908) 527-4787 or visit the
Union County Web site. |
