RAHWAY- The
projects known as the “Signalization and Intersection
Re-alignment of East
Milton Avenue and Irving Street” and the “Downtown Loop Road”
began in January and are expected to be completed this Spring.
The City is already preparing to change the traffic flow in
the City’s Central Business District (Downtown Loop), starting
with changes to the traffic flow on the side streets.
The
changes to the Side Streets between Main Street and Irving
Street will be as follows:
-
Lewis Street: no
change
-
East Cherry
Street: one way direction will be reversed to head towards
Irving Street
-
Poplar Street:
two way flow will be converted to one-way to head towards
Irving Street
-
Elm Avenue: no
change
-
Elizabeth Avenue:
no change
-
Coach Street: one
way direction will be reversed to head towards Irving Street
Upon completion of the signing and striping changes to the side
streets, changes to the traffic flow along the two major roads
will be implemented. The changes to the major roads will be as
follows:
-
Main Street/W.
Main St. (from E. Milton Ave to Irving Street) : one way
flow will be converted to two way flow
-
Irving Street
(from E. Milton to Central Avenues) : one way flow will be
converted to two way flow
In
addition to the changes in traffic flow in the Downtown Loop,
the City has also begun construction of the signalization and
realignment of the intersection of East Milton Avenue and Irving
Street. Irving Street is being realigned to be opposite Fulton
Street and a traffic signal is being installed at this
intersection. Modifications to the traffic signals at the
intersections of W. Main Street and Elizabeth Avenue and Main
Street and E. Milton Avenue will also be performed to implement
the change from one way to two-way traffic flow in the Downtown
Loop.
The
Rahway Police Traffic Bureau and the City Engineer will be
working to inform motorists, pedestrians, residents and property
owners about any changes to this project. Updated information
will be posted in the affected area, on the this web site and
Comcast TV-34.
