Roads to be resurfaced, streetscapes to be installed

Mayor James Kennedy announced recently that the city plans to install new streetscapes downtown and resurface 13 city streets this fall as part of its annual capital commitment to restoring Rahway’s municipal infrastructure.  Unfinished resurfacing from last year is already underway and will be completed by late Spring.

The $550,000 streetscape project is being funded through a bond ordinance approved by the City Council in June and grants from the Community Development program and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.  The streetscapes include new sidewalks, curbs, trees, benches and lighting and will be installed along the following locations:

East Milton Avenue between Broad and Main Sts.

Main St. between East Milton Avenue and Coach St.

Irving St. between Elm and East Milton Aves.

Broad St. between East Milton Avenue and Irving St.

 

Mark Paving Company of Kearny, which was unable to finish last year’s street resurfacing due to the onset of cold weather, began resurfacing and finishing curb work along the following streets and will be complete the job later this Spring:

 

Colonia Blvd. from St. Georges to Jefferson Aves.

Elm Ter. from Richard Blvd. to Midwood Dr.

Gordon Pl. from Hamilton St. to Seminary Ave.

Laurel Pl. from E. Lake to Regina Ave.

Park St. from E. Milton Ave. to terminus

Plainfield Ave. from Jefferson Ave to Madison Ave.

Stockton St. from Randolph to E. Hazelwood Aves.

Stone St. from Jefferson to Madison Aves.

Sullivan Ct. from Whittier St. to terminus

Terrace St. from Jefferson to Madison Aves.

Whittier St. from Linden Ave. to city line

 

 Thirteen sections of city streets are also expected to be resurfaced this fall as well.  They include:

 

Allen St. between West Lincoln and Wilson Aves.

Campbell St. between Broad and West Cherry St.

Canterbury Lane (entire length)

East Milton Avenue between Beacon St. and the city line

Fulton St., between East Milton and East Hazelwood Aves.

Henry St. between East Milton and Barnett St.

Jaques Avenue between West Maple and West Hazelwood Aves.

Jefferson Avenue between Lake and West Meadow Aves. and

between West Hazelwood Avenue and Race St.

Lambert St. between Westfield Avenue and Harold St.

Main St. between East Stearns St. and East Lake Aves.

Murray St. between Jefferson and Madison Aves.

West Lincoln Avenue between Ludlow and Winfield Sts.
