NEW PLAYGROUND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

RAHWAY, NJ –Mayor James Kennedy and Fifth Ward Councilwoman Deanna Tilton announced
this week that the new playground equipment at William Berzinec Park – located at the intersection of St. Georges and Central Avenues – is now open to the public and will soon be complemented by five regulation tennis courts open to Rahway residents.

The playground – which is about three times as large as the old playground on the site – features a skytower, “sonic slide,” climbing structure and other features for children aged 5 through 12.  It is joined by three new picnic tables, four benches, numerous new trash receptacles and a bicycle rack.  The playground is in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act and was installed by Raymond Michael Ltd. of Clifton.

On May 13, the City Council passed a resolution renaming the former Library Park after Berzinec, a Rahway resident who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968 while serving in the U.S. Army.  The park will be formally dedicated in his memory later this year.
