PSE&G set to begin Rahway
streetlight relamping
Rahway – Mayor
James J. Kennedy announced that Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G)
Company is scheduled to conduct a group-relamping of the city’s
streetlights this summer.
In
group-relamping, all of the streetlight bulbs in a given area are
replaced at the same time, rather than replacing individual bulbs
as they burn out. Photocells that sense existing light and turn
electric lights on when natural light levels are low (evening);
and off when light levels are higher (daybreak) are also tested.
PSE&G will replace missing cover plates at the base of the poles.
“We
appreciate PSE&G’s commitment to be our partner to brighten our
neighborhoods, business districts, and open spaces. This is a good
example of the public and private sector working together to
improve the quality of life for their customers and our citizens,”
said Kennedy.
“Group relamping allows PSE&G to more easily forecast the
streetlight’s life expectancy and its replacement and labor
costs,” said PSE&G Electric Distribution Manager Robert Kirk.
“PSE&G can manage its response time more efficiently, forecast
maintenance and improve our material purchasing with the group
relamping process.”
Customers can play an important and supportive role in PSE&G’s
efforts to maintain a high level of lighting.
“When
customers identify a street light outage, they may call (800)
436-7734, or visit our website at
www.pseg.com, click on ‘For your Town or City’ and then
‘Report a Streetlight Outage,’” said PSE&G Public Affairs Manager
Richard Dwyer. “Customers should provide the following
information: pole number (if available), address directly behind
the pole, the nearest street intersection, and the physical
condition of the light and the fixture.” |
