KENNEDY RECOGNIZES INAUGURAL YOUTH POLICE ACADEMY GRADS

On August 2, Mayor James Kennedy was on hand to preside over the first graduating class of the Rahway Youth Police Academy held at City Hall.

The week-long program was organized by the Rahway Police Department’s Community Assistance Team (CAT) to introduce young people to the rigors and responsibilities of being a police officer as well as their responsibilities to their parents, peers, teachers and selves.  During the week the students reviewed police topics like patrol procedures, radar detection and fingerprinting.  The Union County Sheriff’s Department also provided a K-9 demonstration, as well as classes on narcotics detection and tracking missing persons.

The Youth Police Academy was co-sponsored by the Rahway Center Partnership, Liberty Bank, First Union and Fleet Bank.
